Culvert Installation and Basin Excavation Progress

Work Completed This Week
The contractor continued topsoil stripping across the site and installed the majority of the pipe culvert, including rip rap at the downstream end. Earth excavation and embankment placement progressed along the extension corridor. Excavation of the east basin was completed down to subgrade, followed by initial topsoil placement over the excavated area. ComEd was also on site to begin removing a light pole in conflict with the project.

Work Anticipated Next Week
The contractor plans to complete topsoil stripping throughout the site. Earth excavation and embankment placement is anticipated to continue, as well as the installation of sanitary sewer.

Barricades Installed and Site Work Advancing

The contractor installed barricades to close off the driveway aprons into Oak Hill. Curb and gutter, driveway aprons, and pavement removal continued behind Oak Hill. Topsoil stripping advanced throughout the site, and excavation and embankment placement were completed in preparation for the culvert installation.

Work Anticipated Next Week
The contractor plans to complete topsoil stripping across the site. Installation of the 24-inch culvert is also scheduled, along with continued earth excavation and embankment placement.

Clearing and Site Preparation

Work Completed This Week
The contractor continued clearing and grubbing throughout the project site and began stripping topsoil in preparation for grading. Tree stump grinding was completed across the site. In addition, the contractor sawcut curb and gutter as well as the concrete driveway aprons into Oak Hill, preparing these areas for removal.

Work Anticipated Next Week
The contractor plans to install barricades to close off the driveway aprons into Oak Hill. Work is also scheduled to include the removal of curb and gutter, driveway aprons, and pavement behind Oak Hill. Topsoil stripping is anticpated to continue across the site. The contractor plans to begin earth excavation and embankment placement for installation of a 24-inch culvert, which is also planned for placement next week. Removal of a shed located within the project site is also anticipated.

Site Preparation and Erosion Control Measures

The contractor performed clearing and grubbing across the project site. Layout for silt fence was completed, and both silt fence and inlet baskets were installed for erosion control. A construction entrance was established at Nicole Lane, and tree stump grinding began throughout the extension corridor.

Work Anticipated Next Week
The contractor plans to continue tree stump grinding across the site and begin topsoil stripping in preparation for future grading and utility work.

Temporary signage was placed today. Work on the Hook Drive Extension project is anticipated to start Monday, September 22nd, weather permitting.

Motorists and pedestrians approaching the work zone are urged to pay close attention to orange signs and flaggers in work zones, obey posted speed limits, avoid cell phone use, be alert for construction workers and equipment, and obey closures and safety measures.

On behalf of the Village of Round Lake Beach, we would like to welcome you to the project website for the Hook Drive Extension project. This construction of a new roadway extension of Hook Drive from Nicole Lane to Orchard Lane, and associated improvements at the intersection of Rollins Road and Nicole Lane / Woodbine Drive is part of the Village of Round Lake Beach’s continued initiative to improve the infrastructure throughout the community.

This project will be funded by a combination of Surface Transportation Program (STP) funds provided by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) and local funds provided by the Village of Round Lake Beach.

This project will construct an extension of Hook Drive from Nicole Lane to Orchard Lane in the Village of Round Lake Beach.  The intersection of Rollins Road and Nicole Lane / Woodbine Drive will also be improved. The total gross and net lengths of the project are 0.58 miles in the Village of Round Lake Beach.

In accordance with the Village of Round Lake Beach Ordinance, daily working hours for the construction project are from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM on weekdays, and 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Saturday. There is currently no work anticipated on Sundays or major legal Holidays.
